Okay…it’s not always easy to eat right, but we know that real success comes with a regular exercise program, like North Atlanta Boot Camp and EZ8 Running Camp combined with quality nutrition in a meal plan.  Healthy eating is an essential component to fueling your workouts as well as maximizing your results.  The two go hand-in-hand, and the fruits of your exercise will not be maximized if you are not eating properly. This is where we can help!

Our customized meal plans are designed to be well-balanced, nutritious, and calorie appropriate for your age, gender, activity level and goals.  We take into account your likes and dislikes, and incorporate the foods you enjoy.  Your meal plan includes a phone consultation and a four-week plan that can be adjusted as needed.  The plan includes three meals and three snacks, so you will stay full and be satisfied while you reach and maintain your goal weight.

Inspiring Story!

 

I started doing this camp to get in shape which would hopefully help fix a fertility issue I am dealing with. Without going into all the details PCOS can cause you to gain weight, stop having your period/ovulating, etc.....It really wasn’t a huge concern for the doctors or me until we wanted to have kids, their fix for a lack of period was just put me on the pill. Now we are ready for kids and the pill would be counter productive. So they said drop weight before we start spending money on fertility treatments because it would increase the success rate…..that is why I started coming to bootcamp, I just couldn’t make myself workout on my own.

 

The bad news, I am not pregnant yet but the GREAT news is since the beginning of this year I have naturally had 4 periods (with ovulation) which is much more than my body has done on its own in years. Normally the doctor gives me drugs to bring on periods; it is such an awesome feeling to know my body is doing what it should (because of bootcamp!!). If this keeps up then I know we will at some point be blessed with a child. Plus, I am hopeful that I won’t have to spend money on fertility treatments because my body is starting to regulate itself!  Without your help and bootcamp I don’t think I would even be seeing that as a possibility in my future, so Thank You! I obviously couldn’t have done it on my own or else I wouldn’t have been in such poor condition to begin with.  Okay enough of the personal stuff…Just had to let you know sometimes the meaning behind attending camp is more than getting in shape! My Thank you isn’t just for helping me lose a few founds, it is for giving me hope at a family.

Calling ALL Used, Clean and New Sneakers!!!

Shoe4Africa is a non profit organization dedicated to promoting social empowerment, health initiatives and AIDS awareness. The group collects and distributes used running shoes, creates sporting events and training programs, and offers HIV testing and information to all who attend the races and games. By partnering with some of Africa's most beloved running stars, Shoe4Africa has been able to reach communities that have historically resisted traditional HIV/AIDS initiatives.

The Kibera slums have a very high mortality rate. Your donated shoes can have a huge impact on a person's overall health and happiness, and could even affect how long they live. Shoe4Africa will transport the shoes to Kenya and distribute them at signature sporting events. Events will include a community running race and the kick-off of the Kibera soccer leagues! Besides the clear-cut benefits of increased hygiene and exercise, the program helps Kibera residents in the following ways:

  • AIDS Testing / Awareness: At Shoe4Africa sporting events, HIV testing and HIV/AIDS information is freely available to all who attend
  • Hookworm Reduction

A Kenyan study showed that 92% of students age 8-20 were infected with intestinal worms which often enter the body through the feet. These worms affect everything from a child's intellectual development to a woman's ability to carry a baby to term. Providing people with footwear drastically reduces the chances of transmission.

North Atlanta Boot Camp in partnership with Totally Running will collect and ship all donated sneakers.  If you have any new/used sneakers that you would like to donate please take to any of the two locations of Totally Running store or bring them to camp before September 15th!! *Please wash first*

So Many Shoes...?           

With so many shoes on the market, how can I pick the correct shoe for running and working out?

Top Reason NOT to pick a shoe:

1.       It makes my foot look small.

2.       I like the color.

3.       My friend wears this shoe.

4.       I read that it will make me faster.

5.       Usain Bolt wears this one, right?

Finding the correct running shoe is essential to an enjoyable workout and keeping up with a program.  The right shoe choice offers comfort and helps to prevent unnecessary injuries. 

The best way to find a shoe that is functionally appropriate for your foot is to walk yourself into your local specialty running store.   There you will find staff trained to look at your foot and gait, and take the time necessary to make sure that you are in the correct shoe.  When you go to the store, bring your old shoes if you have them and be prepared to tell the employee about your running history, what injuries you have experienced, your current running plan and your goals.  If you are training for a new distance, starting a new boot camp program or planning on taking it a little easier for a couple months, make sure you let the employee know.

The employee will evaluate your foot and look at your arch, foot width and ankles closely.  In addition he or she will likely make you walk in a neutral shoe to start and observe you closely as you walk and run.  In many stores a treadmill and recording device is also a useful tool for the staff to show the customer exactly what they see.  Depending on the outcome of this evaluation, the employee will recommend that you wear a neutral, stability or motion control shoe. 

The staff should be able to help you find two or three pairs of shoes that are functionally appropriate for you.  After that, you can pick the pair that feels the most comfortable on your foot.  Then you are ready to get out the door and take advantage of the motivation new shoes provide!
