Survival of the Fittest - Your Travel Workout Plan

Business travel can be frustrating for the most organized person.  You feel out of control of your rituals, workouts, and life in general.   You are constantly in a new environment that you finally adjust to just in time to jet off to another location.  You don’t have your trainer around to motivate and direct you.  Your workout buddy is miles away.   Your conference schedule will barely allow you to breath let alone make it to the humble workout room in the bowels of the hotel. Does this sound familiar?

Have no fear it is survival of the fittest for everyone.  You can still have a terrific workout on the road without your trainer, workout partner, or your luxurious gym and this is how.

  • Pack workout attire. There is a better chance that you will workout if you actually have the proper   attire with you. Shirt, shorts, and SHOES! If you really want to make a difference and stop complaining you can add these lightweight items in your carry on: Jump Rope, Resistance Bands a Can Do Attitude
  • Make use of the space around you in your room: Towel becomes yoga mat, chair becomes bench, and table becomes stretching assistant.
  • Call ahead and see if your accommodations include a gym. If not inquire about a pass or nearby gym.
  • If all else fails, workout in your room with this workout below:

 

Workout in your room

20 Jumping Jacks or 30 Modified Jacks

20 Side Bends

20 Knee Lifts

20 Side Knee Lifts

20 Dips on chair in the room or 20 over head lifts with the hotel phone book or directory

20 pushups or push-ups on the wall standing

20 swimmers or modified hyperextensions

20 Side Leg circles and reverse do 20 in the other directions

20 Side leg lifts

20 Bridges

20 Criss Cross or bicycles or side twist

Stretch Hug your knees in to you chest

Sit up reach for your toes, shins or knees

Advanced add mountain climbers and planks 20 seconds

Do this full cycle 3 times. It should take you 20 minutes.  Add or subtract a cycle if you need more time. 

If you think 20 reps are IMPOSSIBLE for you then do 10.  Take a break and then do 10 more.  You owe it to yourself to at least give it a try.  Let your body tell you no and not your mind.

You can survive and remain fit during your business travel.  You can have a total body workout that is effective and efficient. Take control of your business travel.  You deserve it and the endorphin high will allow you to serve better in your business meetings.

I had been going to Samantha's evening camp for a little over a year when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2008. I elected to have a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction that used some muscle and tissue from my back.  The day after my surgery, the nurses were impressed with how quickly I walked up and down the halls.  Once I got home and couldn't use my arms alot to push myself up, I used my core and/or my legs.  Everyone was amazed at my quick recovery, and I believe 100% that it had so much to do with the strength I've built up at camp.  I was able to drive after three weeks, and my range of motion is back to normal.  Though I don't wish a cancer or any other diagnosis on anyone, I think it's possible to recover much quicker with the fitness and strength you build with North Atlanta Boot Camp!
